Do not buy!
... 8 bucks are quite heavy, but at least this application does what you expect: It looks up posters for movies and series according to file- and / or foldernames. But there are 3 things that are quite annoying: 1.) Usability - You have no overview of the search results, you have to click through all posters 1 by 1 until you find what you need. - Could be done better. 2.) BUG (!) - It does not work on recently renamed files. (Console shows -> "sandboxd: MovieIcon deny file-read-data /dirblabla/OLDFILENAME/..namedfork/rsrc/") 3.) Just annoying - When you start the app for the first time and you just want to dive in, the sound effects are turned on. You hear a ticking during the search progress, totally annoying. And you cant turn it off while the app is looking for something, so if you try, you get a dumb error sound because you cant access the preferences right now, even more annoying. These three things keep me from saying that I love this app, because besides that, its well done.
I was searching such a tool a long time and found the best one I think. Every movie was found very fast, the software applies the cover very fast without any recoding of the file (in contrast to iTunes). It’s absolutely worth it to buy. Recommendation!
One big bug is feaking anoying. If I applied some icons i can’t change them anymore. So once you add to your movie an icon, there is noch chance to change it into another. So I applied 10 videos with wrong covers, and they have it now forever. Or till the app gets a debug. Sucks anyway… now every of my movies is 300 rise of an empire..
MovieIcon just works like a charm. It is very easy to use and and found me every icon i searched for. I havent seen anything like this app on the net. It is very useful, especially if you have mkv files, that you can’t just edit with the usual programs. At first I wasn’t sure about buying the app, because of the mixed reviews, but I had no problems whatsoever and the problems mentioned seem to be resolved. The price may seem a bit high, but the dev has obviously put a lot of effort into this and it is worth every cent. (I just wish, that there were any app like this for audiobooks.)
I really like this app. It gets the job done in a very simple and efficient manner. Its definitely worth the $3. I have a few, extremely minor suggestions for making the app absolutely perfect: - If the DB isnt reachable, dont make me re-drag the movies onto the app. If I originally dragged a number of folders worth of movies onto the app, I dont know which ones were already done without doing a bit of work. Instead, the app should just show a retry button. - There should be a preference to disable the audio effects. Theyre a nice effect, but they get a tad annoying if you have lots of movies to go through. Its especially annoying if you want to watch or listen to something while youre using this app, because you cant simply mute your system sound! - The app cannot be hidden with CMD+H. Thanks for creating this app. Its really great -- Im just quite picky. :)
Great time saving app. Effortlessly adds artwork to all movie files, even in folders. The iTunes integration is great but shouldnt be another $5 in-app purchase. It should be included in the initial $5 needed to buy the app! Oher than the price, this is a great app.
Consider me impressed. I bought this app via a simple Google search. Impressive. The description could use some work because it is unclear what exactly the app does… but in short: Simple drag-drop files into MovieIcon. MovieIcon will then search various internet databases for cover art (based upon the movie title in the filename) and then you choose the correct cover art to match. Movie icon will replace the files icon to match the movie poster. Very simple to use. I would recommend this app to others IF MovieIcon added a thumbnail preview of each of the titles as well. As it stands right now, only the icon of the file has been changed. When I view the movies through my PS3 or on Apple TV (aTV Flash) the thumbnail preview doesnt match the icon. So although MovieIcon does what it is supposed to do, it doesnt do a fullsome job… and for $4.99 it should. Dont pay $4.99… without the thumbnail preview its worth no more then $1.99 (if that).
I downloaded this app after googling for a solution for my itunes videos with no album artwork… I must say the program is dead simple to use and most of th time spot on with it’s choices… I would like them to add in a movie description program as well but if you have a ton of movies without artwork this will save you a ton of time from downloading them and applying them manually… well worth the $5!
it crash a lot, and when it does not work it tell me don’t worry it is not my fault why would it be my fault anyway
This is a simple to use and purposeful piece of software. Just the right thing to search and add cover arts to movies. The design is rather outdated to my taste, but is still ok. A couple of my mkv files refuse to set covers through the app, no other major problems. What annoys me most is how slow the app is when switching between results, especially ‘vertical’ ones. I can barely stand it, tried to find a substitute for the app for a couple of times now, unsuccessfully though. This one makes it 3 stars.
It doesnt work with .mkv file.. need an update!
Was searching for a long time for something like that, and yes now i found it. My critics: 1. The scroll buttons for left/right and up/down are really to small 2. There is no way to change the icon of a VTS/VOB folder ( that would be perfect because sometimes you need this TOO if you dont want to compress to avi, mov ecc,) 3. Take a look at this software, its called SlipCover they got this option! My Pros: 1. Simple and quite fast 2. Interface ok 3. Works smooth If you are able to insert also the option for putting an icon to a folder then this app is price and 5 stars worth!
Ive used this program with hundred of mkv file, works like a charm!!
Very good app, save me much time to order my library. Contacted support for info, had fast reply. Get it!
Does what it says, it seems that I have to submit each movie twice before it changes the icon. Sometimes it will work on the first try, but most of the time I have to drag and drop twice. Kind of annoying.
Makes a video library look amazing. Very simple to use, though there are some things Id like to see changed/added. Definately reccomended. Feedback: A new icon. The "change movie cover" buttons arent obvious. The app should cache previous and future movie covers for the same movie cover (e.g. if I look at the third cover of legalpublicdomainmovie.avi, it loads the fourth one automatically and temporarily stores the second one." And the movie title text is difficult to read regardless of the light or dark backgrounds. Overall, a very good app with lots of updates.
DO not buy this app, it has no reviews because it does not work.
After downloading the previous version a week or so ago and discovering it worked great on files but I was hoping to label all my .dvdmedia packages from ripIt. I fired off a quick email to the developer describing what I was after and I got a response about an hour later saying it sounded feasible. What a great christmas present to get a new version today that does exactly what I was after! Ive now got fabulous movie poster icons on all of my 80 ripped movies! Thanks for the great work !
